Day 23. Adelaide day 3

There was nothing formally organised for today, so we decided to travel back to the Adelaide Hills and spend some time in some of the areas we drove through yesterday. We drove due east from Port Adelaide right through the industrial/commercial area supporting the port. We don't think many of Adelaide's citizenry come this way very often. But the route got us to our selected starting point, the township of Tea Tree Gully, pretty directly.

From there we visited Houghton, Inglewood, Gumeracha, and Lobethal, Woodside, Balhannah and Hahndorf again. We stopped at Hahndorf. The town is very tourist oriented. There is significant support for local produce and manufacture, but not completely so. Adrienne only supported locally produced goods. We found the place very friendly and spent a couple of hours absorbing the atmosphere.

After lunch we travelled to Mount Barker for a look, and were very impressed by this beautiful little town. We then returned to Adelaide and enjoyed the Rundle Street Mall.

We had a dinner invitation at the home of Howard and Dianne and then accompanied them to a monthly meeting of the Veteran Car Club of South Australia, of which Howard and Diane are executive officers. It was a very informative night. The highlight was a picture presentation of their recent weekend tour to Strathalbyn at which about 30 cars attended, with a significant number from interstate. Some visitors were on their way home from the Perth rally, stopping at a rally in Kalgoorlie on the way. The Kalgoorlie event was on the weekend before we arrived.

In all, it was an extremely relaxing and enjoyable day.
