Day 4. A day filled with cars

This morning we wanted to catch up with three families participating in the National Rally. Two, the Arnolds, 1910 Buick, and the Brooks, 1910 Humberette, were in the Burdekin Tour in July 2009 which we attended in the Dennis. The third was Howard Filtness and his lady, Di in the 1906 Phoenix tricycle. We last saw Howard in 1976 at the National Vintage Tour at Peregian Beach (Noosa) in 1976. It was terrific to see him again.

I filmed the departure of the vehicles after the obligatory chat, morning tea and briefing. This will make a very interesting video after we get home.

We then visited another old friend, Lindsay Hill. Lindsay restored a 1926 N type 40hp Dennis fire engine. Since then he has finished a 1925 Ford TT truck with a Huckster body. He is now working on a 1939 Chevrolet 3 ton truck. Lindsay is a retired electrical contractor who restores in a unit of industrial sheds near Freemantle with fantastic sea views. Lindsay owns the industrial sheds!

After that we took a drive up the Swan Valley to an area called Lower Chittering to see Phil Wyndham. Phil has a 60hp N type Dennis for sale which was manufactured in 1925. The vehicle was cut down to a truck once its fire fighting days were over by the Fire Brigade removing the main pump for other duty. Phil has decided to sell the Dennis, but not before stripping the unit completely to its component parts. I was interested it in for spares, but its age means the engine, power take off and gearbox are different from mine, so not a parts proposal.

Photos. With Damien on Mullaloo Beach. A 60hp Dennis in parts.

Tomorrow we plan to look over the city of Perth.
